Amazing Grace - Mary Hoffman, Caroline Binch

Amazing Grace  is just what the book says, amazing. It teaches children that you can do anything you set your mind to. The main character in the book is a girl that wants to play Peter Pan, while her classmates think it's weird since she is a girl. However, she shows them otherwise by doing just what she planned on, being Peter Pan. I love the idea of teaching this in my classroom, so I plan on reading this aloud in about 3rd grade.

Matilda - Roald Dahl, Quentin Blake

Matilda is one of my FAVORITE movies ever! I have not read the book, but since I found out there is one, I'm currently running out the door to go read it. This would be a great read aloud or small group. It is about a young girl who has a tough home life and has to go to school to deal with the worst principal ever. However, despite everything she has against her, her love for reading and her amazing teacher helps her through it. I would recommend this for around 3rd grade.

Eloise - Kay Thompson, Hilary Knight

When I was younger, I remember watching the Eloise television series all the time. They were my favorite! It is about a young girl that grew up in a luxurious hotel and I found it fascinating. I recently ran across this book and thought it would be a great one to share in my classroom for some of the girls to read for fun. I would say it should be read by a 4th-5th grader, depending on their reading level. I personally have not read the book yet, but I plan to.

The Giving Tree - Shel Silverstein

The Giving Tree is a popular children's book, well known for its pictures. The book is about the friendship between a boy and a female tree. The boy goes to the tree when he is in need of things and the tree does what she can to give him what he wants. The Giving Tree offers opportunities to talk to your students about love, self-sacrifice, greed, and happiness. It was made to be read by K-2nd grade.

Holes - Louis Sachar

The book Holes is an incredible book ideally for grades 4th through 5th. It is a story of two boys, Stanley and Zero, standing up for what they believe in despite all odds being against them. I personally feel that it is very important to stand up for your beliefs no matter what. So I want to incorporate this book into my classroom by teaching this lesson to my students.

Oh the Places You'll Go![OH THE PLACES YOULL GO D][Hardcover] - DrSeuss

Oh, The Places You'll Go! is an incredible book for all ages! It is about changes you go through in life and its challenges. It is great for students moving from elementary school to middle school, middle school to high school, and all between. With that said, I would love to read this to my 5th graders in my placement since they are freaking out about middle school.

The Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System - Joanna Cole, Bruce Degen

The Magic School Bus is a great way to get students interested in science while also getting them to read. When I was younger, I loved The Magic School Bus series. I feel like you could use this series for any elementary grade.

Bully B.E.A.N.S. - Julia Cook

Bully B.E.A.N.S. is a story about a bully that constantly threatens the students at her school. One day, a student goes home to tell her Mother about Bobbette, the bully. Once the Mother finds out about the bullying, she gives her daughter "bully beans". When the beans are eaten, they give you the ability to stand up against bullies. I love the idea of having this book in the classroom to teach students how to handle bullies. I would begin using this book in 1st or 2nd grade. If I had any bullying problems when teaching older grades, I would pull this book out also.

Los tres pequeños jabalíes / The Three Little Javelinas - Susan Lowell, Jim Harris

The Three Little Javalinas is a great book to use in the classroom to keep the attention of your ELL students. You could use this book and the original Three Little Pigs book when doing compare and contrast. I would say this should be used in the 3rd to 5th grade classroom.
